Codenamed “Call of the Wild”, this is a group tour to Pulau Hantu, an island situated south of Singapore. For those who love to get acquainted with the family of insects and reptiles in the wild or simply take a break from the concrete jungle, this is definitely the place to go – a decade ago, where snakes, reptiles greet you upon touch down.
Nevertheless, this island is beautiful in its own unique way with its 3 jetties, a 20 meter high water tank and lots of young coconut trees and lagoon. Forget comparing this to any mainland park, this wins hands down for its wonderfully designed shelters, trash bins, pedestrian walk ways and clean beaches. A thing to note, this island is unusually quiet with occasional visits from holiday makers on leisure crafts and canoes. Of course to us, it might seem to be an intrusion of privacy when 30 people, supposedly from a local polytechnic, parked their canoes after a long day’s ride and rustle around. Not bad compared to sharing East Coast Park with a few hundred others. Experience tranquility and cold winds like you never had before on mainland, it’s definitely a feeling of being back to the village.
In any sense if you feel alienated and helpless without electricity, take this time to discover how desperate you can be and all those things you took for granted in life. Pulau Hantu is divided into 2 portions, one is named Pulau Hantu Besar (means big in Malay) and the other is Pulau Hantu Kechil (Means small in Malay). Guess what, these 2 islands appear to be separated, but it’s actually linked so it’s possible to walk over to the other island when the tide is low. There’s even a Malay legend that was posted on the signboard near the Jetty, but I guess we must have been too absorbed in our activities to read the entire splatter.
