It took a week of planning and another to purchase all the equipment & stores required for the camp. Considering the duration of the camp, the quantity of our stores was considered record breaking to have everyone’s hands full during loading and unloading. It’s no joke to have extra 10- 20 kg on top of our personal luggage unless you were a donkey in your previous life.
Accommodation: A good camp will not be good without a good tent. We brought along 2 tents that can hold up to 10 averaged size campers. The tent is particularly useful for putting your luggage, equipment and is a place to rest. Don’t be too reliant on shelters as they might not be able to provide you with all round protection against insects and the cold. Ironically, there were still some mysterious insects which managed to sneak into our tents at night, driving us into a frenzy, trying to get them out quickly. It could have been better if we had lit mosquito coils instead of using cigarette smoke to disinfect the tents.
Light: While moonlight and the light from neighboring islands were spectacular at night, it was simply insufficient to create tangible vision. Our pressure lamp, bought from Peninsula Plaza, was a disaster. This fragile thing requires kerosene and methanol spirit to function and the assembly and operating instructions are vague. It is NOT recommended for those who have no practical experience on it before any imminent explosion. Thanks to our ingenuity, we managed to light it up eventually but still it paled in comparison to a candle and it’s definitely not romantic. Wait a minute; all is not lost because we brought battery operated lamps that saved the day!
