Mt. Hood can be accessed for about one hour by land from Portland. You can see this mountain from the city when the weather is clear. Also, you can see Mt St Helens right from the city in a good weather, but getting a clear weather is very difficult there. Portland rains 9 months out of the year.

Also, Mt Hood is the name of a city near to the mountain. Here is the place where you can find the station for the Scenic Mt Hood Railroad. You’ll like this one If you like trains and short trips. It is 4 hours long and they serve brunch, and dinner depending on what time you go. Also, they also have cheaper rides without food.

Me and friends took the Saturday night Murder Mystery Scenic Tour. We left the station at about 4 p.m. and returned at 8:30 or so. Train goes two hours to the mountain. Stops at a small town for about 15 minutes and then heads back.

As we left the station, dinner was served . We got to enjoy our meals and look out the windows at the passing scenery. We did see a lot of farms and warehouses though. There actually wasn’t as much scenery as I expected.

The menu was very delicious though and the service was very good. The train was not full train, therefore we got a table to ourselves which was very cozy and romantic. We heard that if you are celebrating some occasion they throw in a nice cake and sing to you.

It started getting dark on the way back. we had already seen the scenery going up the mountain so that was a great time to have the murder mystery. There were 6 people came into the rail car and began acting out their roles. I guess it was a comedy. You will laugh at anything. Everyone had good time. You will be entertained by the show and they played a different parts that make the show very interesting.

That was my best tome. It was also nice to go with someone. It wouldn’t have been something I would have liked to do by myself.

So, when you plan a trip to Portland, it is suggested you contact the Portland Tourism Commission and ask them to send you their free travel information. It will be a great book explaining all the great scenic drives in the state. We took one of them to Mt Hood and back. In late May they actually still had some snow turned into ice up there even.
